Hopeful Romantic by Eve Walton
They always say ‘write what you know’, so Amy has decided to write about what she knows best: unrequited love. Mustering up all of her wit and wisdom, Amy takes us through her history of unavailable lovers, attempting to understand why it is she falls so fast and so hard for those she can’t have. Only, over the course of the show, it becomes clear that Amy’s stories aren’t exactly true, and she’s not being honest with us about what she really wants. What follows is a complete deconstruction of character, story, and the idea of love itself as Amy explores what it means to be a hopeless romantic and whether she can pull herself out of her romantic rut. At times, she looks to her tech team for advice, at times, she asks the audience. Utilising elements of stand-up, monologue, and audio recording, the scenes of Amy’s heartbreak play out and are dissected by her and the audience, hoping to find something more positive at the end.
The script contains strong language.

Oranges by Gabriella Songui
This is a story of migration and belonging, inspired by my family’s journey to England as part of the Windrush Generation. It is interesting how the world changes and time passes and yet so many of our problems stay exactly the same. This play is set in the 1960s and tells the story of three women: Simone (from Trinidad), Nina (from India), and Mary (from Ireland). Simone lives with her husband and son Sammy and has two young children back in Trinidad. Now that she is settled in England she has to organise travel for her mother and children to come to live with them, however, this is a lot harder than it first seems. Nina is eighteen and has only recently moved to England to be with her husband Rajesh. Although she speaks English perfectly, she has not yet made any friends and is afraid of meeting people. Her only wish is to return to India. Lastly, Mary is from Ireland and works as a nurse for the NHS. She is smart, witty, and confident in her abilities, but faces many instances of prejudice at work. Although they each have quite different stories, they are tied together in more ways than you would expect.
