Live Table Read: Talk To Yourself by Lea Fante
Talk To Yourself
Talk to Yourself is a personal and intimate journey of a woman through her pregnancy experience and choices.
A pregnant woman. A dystopian world. One decision to make.
She does not know what to do, but a computerised system thinks it knows better and manipulates her will. Is it blackmailing? Is it psychological abuse? A story about choices and hope. A tale about a heroine fighting against a system to save herself and her rights. But at what cost?
This play is based on true stories. It is a dystopian reality: Choros (pronounced Koros) is the system interacting with the nameless individual. It's timeless and it can be set anywhere, in any place, at any time. There is a woman, she is 33 years old and she's pregnant. She doesn't know what to do as she's on her own. She has to take the decision. She thinks about when she was younger and had an abortion and didn't hesitate. She lives in a dystopian world where a system takes care of all human decisions as humans aren't able to do so. That's what the system thinks. If you're a rebel, you'll be isolated and blacklisted forever. This time, she wants to be a hero: she's not allowed to share her story without giving it to CANT (Cooperative Abortion New Testimony) for previous analysis. However, she will do it: she will leave her testimony on a recording tape for anyone who would like to listen to her experience. That's her choice. That's the reason why now we can listen to her voice and be witnesses to the system's craziness.
