Fade to Light
Fade To Light is a bleak drama that aims to shine a harsh, supernova light on man’s inhumanity to man. The main backdrop of the story focuses on Professor Docherty, a naïve, socially awkward astrophysicist who has discovered evidence that a distant star – later revealed to be Betelgeuse – is fading, suggesting that it could be going supernova (mirroring some contemporary discussions within the scientific community). As he travels to spread the news of his findings, he crosses three distinct storylines loosely connected to his movements.
The play explores some challenging and difficult issues that the world is currently facing, wrapped within a storyline that comes across as a potential ‘fix’ for these problems: the splendour of the universe. It is told in a heightened and mostly narrative style, using choral work and physicality as the main storytelling tools.
The script contains scenes of violence, sexual violence, homophobia, and offensive language centred around race.
