Branded Goods by Norman Miller

A young Eastern European woman (Jana) is drugged by another Eastern European man (Goran) and awakes to find herself in a brothel. She is forced into prostitution, imprisoned along with another woman (Sylvie) who has suffered a similar fate. The brothel is owned by Cameron, but day-to-day operations are run by an older woman (Angela), backed by thugs – represented by Gregor.

As interactions develop between the three women, layered backstories appear – including the fact that Angela was once also a prostitute, until 'elevated' by Cameron to run things. A central strand is a sharply shifting relationship between Jana and the man who 'captured' her, along with fissures between her and Sylvie – until the moment comes when they get a chance to escape.

The play is mostly set in a brothel and tackles upsetting topics, including kidnap and sex trafficking.

Join our table read for a brand new short play to be one of the first people to hear brand new works!

Please note that this is just a table read and by no means a completed script, nor a full production. You will also be given an opportunity to provide feedback at the end of the session to support our writers.
